Timeless Egypt - safety on tours
We should always take passenger safety very seriously whilst on the tours. Safety is one of the core values of the business and we should constantly monitor and review how we can achieve the highest standards in this area. As a tour guide you have overall responsibility for the health and safety of passengers whilst on tour. Managing customer health and safety is important for the prevention of accidents and incidents and the protection of clients from injury, harm or ill health.
We aim to provide memorable travel experiences to all our customers and aim to guarantee that tours are memorable for all the right reasons. You should provide your customers with as much safety information as they need to have a safe as well as enjoyable experience.
Please allow 5 to 10 minutes during the tour meeting to speak to customers about safety procedures.
Things to do whilst on the tours:
Always take a moment to familiarize yourself with customers’ requests / notes. It is very important to know if any of your travellers have an illness, allergy or food requirement.
Buses
Always demonstrate the safety procedures on the buses we use. Please watch the safety information video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grwmqMgZhXc
Check that the buses have fire extinguishers and a stocked first aid kit on board.
Inform passengers that it is a legal requirement to wear seat belt whilst travelling on buses.
Monitor the drivers and ask them to drive safely and stick to the speed limits.
Hotels
Ask all passengers to familiarize themselves with the fire evacuation and safety procedures at hotels and on board Nile cruises which should be published at every property.
Feluccas
Make sure all feluccas have enough life jackets and that these are easily accessible.
Make sure all felucca staff wear disposable gloves when preparing food for clients.
Make sure that customers’ belongings are stored in a safe place on board.
General
Advise travellers to take care when crossing roads.
When weather is particularly hot, remind people to drink plenty of bottled water to stay hydrated.
It is forbidden to give customers any medication. Always ask a client to seek professional advice before taking any medication such as a pharmacist or doctor.
WHAT IS A RISK ASSESSMENT?
Within the context of travel, a risk assessment is consistent with a group management plan. In other words, the means by which leaders control their group through to the objective of arriving to the next destination safe and sound. Whilst there are many types of risk assessment, it is important to recognise that the concept is quite simple: Somebody identifying a hazard• Recognizing somebody is at risk from the hazard• Putting some judgement on the potential likelihood and severity of the harm that might befall them• Then critically putting in place the necessary control measures to rectify the problem. A hazard is the potential of an activity to cause harm. A risk is the likelihood of the activity causing harm and is linked to the severity of that harm. It is important to recognise that you already risk assess many, many times in an average working day.
We would like to thank you all for your co-operation and please speak to your manager should you have any questions.
